Our waste recycling service aims to collect, process, recycle, and export various waste materials to minimize their environmental impact and promote sustainable practices. Here's a summary of the key aspects of a waste recycling service we currently provide to the public:

Cans must be clean and uncrushed.

PET Bottles

PET bottle must be clean, with the label, and the cap removed.

Lead-Acid Batteries

Lead-Acid Batteries that are not levied will be determined during collection or drop-off.

Recycling Process

Recycling Collection

Our collection service applies only to three main recycled materials which include PET Bottles, Aluminium Cans, and Lead-Acid Batteries. The collection sites are evenly distributed in South Tarawa at Bonriki, Bikenibeu, Eita, Banraeaba, Teaoraereke, and Bairiki from Monday to Thursday. (refer to collection schedule below)

Crushing, Bailing and Packing

The recycled PET bottles and Aluminium Cans are both crushed or bailed and prepared for export. The Lead-Acid Battery is packed properly to meet the BASEL packing standards to prevent any hazardous acid from leaking. The packing process is done by securing the batteries to the pallet and wrapping around the pallet with plastic wrap at least once. The overall process is done at the Material Recovery Facility in Betio Port.

Overseas Export

At the moment, all recycled materials we process are exported to overseas smelting and repurposing facilities.
